ABOUT THE FILM
Inspired by the visionary philosophy of James and Grace Lee Boggs, In Love & Struggle celebrates Detroit’s enduring spirit of freedom dreaming. The film highlights Detroit’s rich history of grassroots activism and ongoing community transformation, revealing a quiet revolution in action. It calls viewers to reflect on their own being and becoming — to recognize their agency, practice the future they want to see, and tap into the power of neighborly love.

Why the film?
We wanted to make a film in part because we want to honor our visionary place-based organizers in Detroit, who are the descendants of a legacy of revolutionary work in Detroit coming from James and Grace Lee Boggs, and their philosophies around how we get free together and what the daily and lifelong practice of that is about.
